Watch the video trailer for Growing Up Golem! I’m so honored that the brilliant filmmakers Susan Muska and Greta Olafsdottir (Edie and Thea, The Brandon Teena Story) made this for me.
APPEARANCE ON CHARLIE ROSE
A 1994 debate I participated in on the Charlie Rose show, between me and Tony Kushner (on one side) and Andrew Sullivan and Bruce Bawer (on the other). Subject: should the LGBTQ movement should align itself with the cause of social justice, and with movements for people of color, the poor, and women? A quote from me: “Gay people are [also] poor people; gay people are people of color; there is a 14-year-old lesbian who lives in the Bronx who writes to me who says ‘You know it’s supposed to be okay, Donna, everything supposed to be okay with me now that k.d. lang is out, but you know, Donna, it’s not okay, and I’m still suicidal.’ ”
This is a video by the wonderful Dror Kahn of me reading at the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art in New York City. Reading starts around 1:30. Many thanks to Leslie-Lohman for hosting me!
